When it comes to upgrading your bathroom and adding a touch of elegance, installing a new shower door can make a significant difference. However, choosing the right contractor is crucial to ensure a seamless installation process and a stunning end result. Before you entrust your project to a contractor, it's essential to gather all the necessary information to make an informed decision.

To help you in this endeavor, we have compiled a list of ten essential questions that you should ask your shower door contractor before hiring them. These questions will not only provide you with valuable insights into their expertise but also give you peace of mind knowing that your bathroom renovation is in capable hands.

  • How many glass shower enclosures have you installed?

Even if they don’t have an exact number for you, it is important to find out how much experience your contractor has with glass shower enclosures. Heavy glass enclosures require knowledge and skill along with the right tools, so you want your contractor to have had experience with this type of installation before.

  • Do you have references / pictures of previously installed enclosures?

This will take your first question a bit further. Asking for references allows you to get feedback from previous clients about their experience with the contractor. It's important to hear from others who have worked with the contractor to assess their professionalism, reliability, and the quality of their work. You can reach out to these references and inquire about the contractor's communication, timeliness, attention to detail, and overall satisfaction with the installation process. This information will help you make an informed decision before hiring the shower door contractor. Additionally, photos of previously completed projects can showcase their skill and past experience.

  • How long will it take to install the enclosure?

Typically, most of our Basco Core Enclosures can be installed within 1-2 hours by a skilled professional. The more custom the enclosure is, the longer it may take. A RODA heavy glass enclosure may take between 2-5 hours, depending on the size and model. If your contractor suggests they will need multiple days or can be done within 30 minutes, this could be a red flag.

  • Will this installation requires multiple people?

You’ll want to make sure that your contractor knows what they are doing and that they have help available if they need it. Many of our Basco Core enclosures can be installed by one person, however, our RODA heavy glass enclosures may often require more than one person to complete the installation properly.

  • What is your availability?

There are a few reasons why you want to ask this question. For one, it will help you and your contractor when scheduling your shower enclosure installation, because you know how much time they anticipate the installation will take. Additionally, knowing how many projects they are currently juggling and how far out they may be booked can indicate their availability in case you have questions or concerns.

  • Do you have a General Liability Insurance and/or Builder’s Risk Insurance?

To ensure that you won’t run into issues later on or in case of injuries, you should always confirm that your contractor has insurance. An honest contractor will be happy to show you an insurance certificate and inform you about it before you hire them. If they are hesitant or not willing to show you proof of insurance, it may be time to look for a different contractor.

  • Do you have a warranty for your work?

Many contractors will offer you a warranty on their work, however, the warranty offer can heavily vary between contractors. While all Basco shower enclosures are covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty that covers your shower enclosure parts, you may still want to ensure that your contractor offers coverage in case any issue arise after the

  • What is the expected Payment Schedule?

Generally, you should pay for work once it is completed. Unless it is a bigger project or the contractor is sourcing materials for you that require a deposit, you consider shying away from contractors who ask for money upfront or pressure you for unnecessary upgrades.

  • How soon after the installation can the shower be used?

If your contractor is familiar with the installation of shower enclosures, he will recommend a that there should be a minimum time of 24 hours to allow silicone to fully cure before using your new shower for the first time. If you want to take this a step further, especially if you are working with a less experienced contractor, you can ask them to ensure that silicone is put in mounting holes drilled into tile, or fiberglass shower walls to insure no possible leaking.

  • Do you guarantee that the tiled floor or pan of my curbless shower will be sloped or pitched correctly?

This question is specific to your project or contractor if your shower is curbless and your contractor is completing your entire shower renovation/installation and not just the installation of your shower enclosure. It is crucial to inquire about the contractor's guarantee regarding the proper sloping or pitching of the tiled floor or pan in a curbless shower. Ensuring that water flows towards the drain helps prevent any potential water leakage outside the shower area. By asking this question, you can assess the contractor's expertise in creating a water-tight shower space and avoid any future issues related to water damage or leaks.

Remember, asking these questions upfront can save you from potential issues down the line, ensuring a smooth and successful shower door installation process. Now you can confidently find a contractor that suits your needs best and your dream bathroom is just a few steps away!
